LED Cable connections
1. OVERVIEW
Field replacement of the current hard drive with a QUANTUM FIREBALL ST hard drive OR IBM UltraStar 9ES hard drive may result in an LED replacement depending on the existing LED connection. If the present LED, on the Quantum Fireball ST, has the white connector connected to the hard drive it will need to be replaced with the LED that is shipped with the field replacement unit and connected as follows:
2. QUANTUM FIREBALL
2.1 LED Connections
- Remove the old LED from the faceplate and install the new LED.
- Connect the LED to Pins 11 and 12 on the J5 Control Connector. Ensure Red wire is connected to Pin #12 (top pin).

3. IBM ULTRASTAR
3.1 LED Connections
- Remove the old LED from the faceplate and install the new LED.
- Connect the LED block to Positions 10, 11, and 12. Ensure that the Red wire in the LED block is positioned on Pin #1 (LED Anode).
Note: Refer to Figures 3.1 and 3.2 for Option Jumper Block location and pin assignments
3.2 Jumper Locations
- Verify a jumper block is placed on Position # 5 (pins 15 and 16)
- Verify a jumper block is placed on Position # 7 (pins 11 and 12)
Note: No other jumpers should be in place.
