Many features can be activated only by first "flashing the switchhook." For example, while you are talking to someone, you  may want to put that call on hold, transfer the call, or organize a conference.  You must flash the switchhook first and then proceed with whatever you want to do. 

Feature Codes vary from PBX to PBX, and featues available are dependant upon the sets Classo of Service. The following examples may not work on your phone. Contact you PBX staff for further information..

On most telephones, you flash the switchhook by pressing down firmly (for no more than one second) on either of the buttons located in the handset cradle.

Your telephone may be equipped with a flash button next to the dial pad, in which case you press this button instead of pressing one of the switchhook buttons.

If you accidentally flash the switchhook during a conversation, simply flash it again to retrieve your caller.

Making Calls

  • Dial Outside line access code (9) if making an external call.

  • Dial the number.

Ending Calls

  • Replace the handset

Reached Busy?

  • Enter CALLBACK-BUSY code (6) to set up an automatic Callback.

  • Replace the handset. When the line becomes free, your telephone will ring.

  • To Cancel press *6

  Answering Calls/Call Pickup  Transfer/Hold

Answering Calls

  • Lift the handset 

A Call to Your Pickup Group?

Your telephone may be programmed into a pickup group, enabling you to answer or "pick up" each other's calls from your telephone.

  • Enter PICKUP code (*3) to be connected to the caller.

A Call to Another Pickup Group?

  • Enter PICKUP (Directed) code (**3)

  • Dial the number of the ringing extension to be connected to the caller.

To Transfer A Call
  • Flash the switchhook to place call on temporary hold. You will hear interrupted dial tone.
  • Dial destination number. Introduce the caller.
  • Replace the handset. 

Note: If you do not wish to introduce the caller, hang up before the destination answers.

Reached Busy or No Answer?

  • Flash the switchhook to return to the original caller.
  • OR Replace the handset to either camp the caller on to the busy extension, or connect the caller to the ringing extension.

To Put Someone on Hold

  • Flash the switchhook. You will hear interrupted dial tone.
  • Enter the HOLD code (*90)
  • Replace the handset or make another call.

To Retrieve a Held Call

  • Enter the HOLD RETRIEVE code (*91). You are connected to the caller.
Conference   Call Waiting/Do Not Disturb
To Set up a 3-party Conference
  • Call the first person. Wait until the call is answered.
  • Flash the switchhook to put the first caller on temporary hold. You will hear interrupted dial tone.
  • Call the next person. Wait until the call is answered.
  • Flash the switchhook to form a 3-party conference.

Reached Busy or No Answer?

If an intended conferee is busy or does not answer:

  • Flash the switchhook to return to the original party.

Add Another Person?

  • Flash the switchhook 
  • Call the next person
  • Flash the switchhook to include everyone dialed so far.

Want to Leave the Conference?

  • Replace the handset. The other conferees remain connected.
If your display and/or camp-on tones indicate that someone is waiting to speak with you, you can either:
  • Replace handset to terminate current conversation and allow waiting call to ring through.
  • Or Flash the switchhook. You will hear interrupted dial tone.
  • Enter the HOLD code to put your current call on hold.
  • Replace the handset
  • Answer the waiting call that rings your telephone.

To Return to Original Conversation

  • Finish your conversation and hang up
  • Lift the handset
  • Enter the HOLD RETRIEVE code to resume conversation with original caller.
 Program A Speed Call   Use A Speed Call Number
Telephone numbers (access numbers) dialed frequently can be stored on a speed key to avoid having to dial the entire number every time.

Program a Speed Call Key

  • Lift the receiver and get a dial tone
  • Press the Speed Call code (##3)
  • Enter the assigned list code (two digit number between 01 and 09)
  • Enter number exactly as you would dial.

For Local Calls:

  • Press 9 then the telephone number

Example: ##3 01 9 844-1212

For Long Distance Calls:

  • Enter 8 + PAC
  • Press 1 + area code + telephone number

Example: ##3 01 8 Your PAC 1 987-564-3201

To redial the last number called press #7.

To Use a Speed Call Number
  • Lift receiver and get a dial tone
  • Enter the SPEED CALL code (#*3)
  • Enter the SPEED CALL index code (two digit number between 01 and 09). The stored number is dialed automatically.

Example: #*3 01 (This will speed call the number you have programmed under the "01" code.)

Keep a list of your speed dial codes and the numbers you have programmed close by, but never reveal your PAC.

 Call Forward/Account Code  
To Forward Your Phone to Another Extension
  • Enter appropriate CALL FORWARD code (*90)
  • Dial extension number to which calls are to be forwarded.
  • Replace handset.
  • To Cancel press #90.

Note: Call Forwarding can also be canceled by entering the CLEAR ALL FEATURES code, but this code also cancels Do Not Disturb and any Callbacks you have activated. (##99)
