UDT E1 PRI Example
Configure the UDT card first! - Set DIP switch S1 ON for E1 mode.
TTY into the card and TURN ON CRC (default is OFF), as CRC is usually required.
Always Force DownLoad the MSDL when enabling the circuit for the first time.
1PRI Loop configuration: (if not already defined). Common Equipment, change in LD 17, print in LD 22.
- At the PRI2 and MG_CARD prompts, the card must be physically installed, otherwise there will be an error!
REQ chg Change existing data TYPE cequ Common Equipment CEQU yes Changes to Common Equipment PRI2 xx The PRI digital loop number MG_CARD l s c The physical card slot for the PRI loop in the media gateway (IPMG) MODE pri Mode of operation TMDI no Must be configured as NO
Print the CEQU in LD 22 to see which PRI loop is associated with which media gateway card.
Having defined the PRI loop, continue with circuit programming...
Note: If the Media Gateway already has a clock card, there is no need to fit another. Otherwise refer to UDT E1 T1 clocks.
2The D (DCH) channel: ADAN (Action Device and Number), build in LD 17, print in LD 22.
- CTYP = MSDL - same as a NTBK51
- MG_CARD = Loop Shelf Card - the physical UDT card location.
- PORT = 1 - port must be set to 1

Enabling the PRI
In LD 96, enable the MSDL and force download; enable the DCH and force download (first time only).
Then goto LD 60 and enable the loop, which also automatically enables the associated D channel.
MSDL commands:
| LD 96 | Description |
|---|---|
| DIS MSDL x | Disable device MSDL x |
| ENL MSDL x (FDL) | Enable MSDL x, force download software |
| SLFT MSDL x | Reset and invoke self tests for MSDL x |
| STAT MSDL (x) | Get status of one or all MSDL's |
D-channel commands:
| LD 96 | Description |
|---|---|
| DIS DCH x | Disable DCH x |
| ENL AUTO DCH x | Enable automatic recovery for DCH x |
| ENL DCH x (FDL) | Enable DCH x and attempt to establish the link, force MSDL download |
| STAT DCH (x) | Get status of one or all D-channels |
PRI loop commands:
| LD 60 | Description |
|---|---|
| DISL loop | Disable network and DTI/PRI cards of loop |
| ENLL loop | Enable network and DTI/PRI cards of loop |
| STAT loop | Get status of DTI/PRI loop |
| RCNT loop | Reset alarm counter of DTI/PRI loop (LCNT to list alarm counters) |
Notes:
- Use
RST MSDL xorSLFT MSDL xto reset a troublesome device! - The FDL (force download) dots should stream smoothly with no errors.
CRC and Companding:
If when you enable the circuit, the D channel won't establish (eg, the PRI Card is green but with no activity), check if CRC is on.
CRC is enabled in LD 73. At the MFF prompt, enter CRC (default: AFF). Note that this must also be set on the UDT card itself:
REQ chg TYPE pri2 2.0 Mb PRI FEAT lpti Loop timers LOOP 200 Loop number of PRI card MFF crc CRC multiframe mode, or AFF alternate mode (default) ACRC
If the circuit establishes, but sounds terrible, try changing the trunk Pulse Code Modulation Law: PCML = MU or A.
MU-law (μ-law) is used in North America and Japan, A-law is used in Europe and the rest of the world.
