2016S Shumway wiring
M2016S have a relay circuit to disconnect the handset when on-hook (on-hook security), and require an external power supply to function, eg: Shumway SBI-217-25 (42VDC @ 300mA), or wall-wart PSU. The following shows how the external power supply is connected.
Shumway MDF:
Shumway wall-mount power panels present power via a 25 pair Amphenol. Each pair is one power supply circuit for one M2016S.
Each circuit is protected with a fuse. Warning: the fuses are sensitive, do not short! A red LED on the panel indicates a blown fuse.

A Shumway power pair is cross-connected with the TN station pair to the house cable as shown below...
Phone Jack:
- Each 2016S requires two pairs: a TN pair, and a Shumway pair.
- The PBX TN pair is polarity sensitive, the Shumway power pair is not.
The M2016S requires a 6 conductor line cord, the wall jack may be either RJ-12 (6 pin) or RJ-45 (8 pin).

Frame Room / IDF:
- Each M2016S+Shumway instance requires two house-cable pairs: one for the TN, and one for power.
- A standard T568B/T568A station drop 'splits' the Orange (or Green), and Brown pairs for power.
For example, with Cat5 station tails terminated on a QCBIX1A4 block:

Additional Information:
Shumway power panels:
- SBI 221-25 : 25x 29VAC, 0.5A, 110VAC input
- SBI 217-25 : 25x 42VDC, 0.3A, 110VAC input
- SBI 217-25-2 : 25x 42VDC, 0.3A, 220VAC input
AC (wall-wart) power supplies are for loops of 30m (100ft) or less. DC power is required for loop lengths of 200m (650ft) or less.
You will hear the 2016's relay "click" when power is correctly applied (with or without TN). A working TN is required for dial-tone!
- AC power: 29 V AC, 700 mA isolated (240VAC/50Hz: AO367914 / 120VAC/60Hz: AO367335)
- DC power: 42 V DC, 300 mA isolated, with current limiting output of 1 amp (eg, Shumway)
The M2016S red LED triangle will light steadily when off-hook, or ringing (eg, handset/piezo relays are connected) and blink for "message waiting". The M2016S has no handsfree capability, nor does it support any accessories, options, or add-on modules.
